Piazzolla and his angel
Terlouw and Schrijner play marvellously, with well-balanced dramatic depth and a sparkling tone colour...… Leutscher’s play is adequate, moving and inspired; more aimed at expression and tone colour than at smooth organic lyricism. In this performance contrasts get full attention. Satanic fortissimi shrink at the rustle of light golden wings, impressively well interpreted in Piazzolla’s ‘ Suite del Ángel ‘, adapted by José Bragato, cello-player in Piazzolla’s ensemble for many years. … Orion indeed shows itself master of contrast. This is once more underlined in the purely swinging Preludes by Gershwin, played with tremendous power in sharply accentuated colours, contrary rhythms, tender rubatos; in delightful ensemble!
