An evening with Clara and Johannes

E-mail Print PDF
The lives of Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms are interwoven by their lifelong friendship. Much is said about their relationship, but one thing is certain: Brahms was a welcome guest in the Schumann home. His music was highly valued there.

Brahms was very fond of Clara and Robert Schumann’s children. He was even godfather of the youngest, Felix. In this musical milieu Johannes Brahms composed his first violin sonata. Marvellous music. But also music with a special significance, for Brahms wrote the sonata for some members of the Schumann family. During the concert Leonard Leutscher will reveal his view of the real importance of this violin sonata in coherence with some songs by Brahms and on the basis of quotations from letters by Johannes and Clara.A moving story which will hopefully provide you an original access to the music the Orion Ensemble is going to play for you.
